ABOUT THE PROJECT
Hurley brand artist James Marshall (a.k.a. Dalek), recognized for his colorful geometric abstract works, often associated with skateboard and graffiti subcultures, was commissioned by SMoCA and Scottsdale Public Art to create murals for the Museum. Marshall (Dalek) is also known for his past apprenticeship with the renowned contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, whose style has been cited as one of Marshall’s strongest influences. SMoCA’s retail store, courtyard wall near the James Turrell Skyspace and SMoCA Lounge got fresh, new designs by Marshall in late May.
